Cumbria Age-Groups 2012

A message from Head Coach, Paul Elwood

Hi all, the Otters carried on where they left off last week with lots of superb swimming this weekend. The full results can be found on the Results page.

Even with so many swimmers poorly this weekend (I counted at least 10) they managed to keep the PBs coming and the badges too.
By my counting we had around 200 PBs over the two weekends across all strokes and distances which is excellent. However, it's the size of most of these PBs which was the real pleasure to see.

10 County Age Group Champions (in one or more events) of - Taylor, Rebecca, Eden, Rhiannon, Alix, Tor, Tom, Austin, Scott and Joe.
2 County Open Champions
Tor - 50 back
Joe - 50,100,200 Back, 50, 100 Butterfly, 50fc and 100IM

We had dozens and dozens of badges and county final medals too.
In the overall BAGCATS we had Taylor, Holly, Sophie, Owen, Georgina, Anya, Tom, Charlie, Sam, Megan, Eden, Rebecca, Rhiannon, Alix, Emily, Amy, Scott, Mike, Garth, Joe, Callum, Austin, Oliver, Sammi and Georgia all finishing in the top 10 in their age groups which is excellent.

Taylor, Rebecca and Joe did superbly well, also winning their age groups.

Joe was also the Top Swimmer with more FINA points achieved than any other male or female swimmer.

In the standings we were third in points won by swimmers in the County Championship finals.

In the Tommy Hatch Trophy points, (which is down to swimmers swimming in their age groups) we are currently in 3rd place behind Carlisle Aquatics and some 212 points ahead of Workington in 4th.

1 Cockermouth 1319
2 Carlisle Aq 793
3 Ulverston 720
4 Workington 508
5 Barrow 507
6 Copeland 455
7 Kendal 127
8 Penrith 86
9 Troutbeck Bridge 0

It's great when people notice that the swimmers are doing so well because I (and they) get asked by other clubs coaches, parents and swimmers, "Swimmer X or Y is doing so much better this year than last year, what have they been doing differently?"
Well the answer is always simple, it's not that they have had a 1 hour trip to Loughborough to find a magic ingredient or been on a training session with a club somewhere else in the country during a holiday, it's all down to the positive atmosphere and attitude of our swimmers and coaches poolside at Ulverston, who deliver the best training we can for all our swimmers. I take my hat off to our coaches and helpers for all the work they have done with the swimmers this year to produce such an excellent set of results. Well done to you all, you should all be very proud!

Olympic Torch

The Olympic Torch Bearers list is officially published today and Head Coach Paul Elwood has been selected to carry the torch for his dedication and contribution to swimming at the club. It is a tremendous honour for Paul and also for Ulverston ASC. He will be carrying the Olympic Torch in Ambleside on Thursday 21st June. We will let you all know more details nearer the time and how we can arrange to get swimmers to line the route.
Once again many congratulations to Paul!
